While Billy Kennedy hardly gets a minute to himself in Ramsay Street, actor Jesse Spencer enjoys the comfort of his palatial family home.
Most Neighbours fans in the UK might imagine life Down Under to be all cul-de-sacs and chalet-style homes. But for actor Jesse Spencer, who plays Billy Kennedy, this is far from the truth. His home is proof that some Aussies have preserved their English heritage.
Inside Soap was lucky enough to get full guided tour of Jesse’s home by the man himself, who managed to find the time in his busy schedule to show us round and let us on a few secrets of how he spends his spare time.
Jesse lives in a beautiful 19th century-style mansion in inner Melbourne, which has been lovingly restored to combine old world charm with modern comforts.
“The house used to overlook a huge property,” explains Jesse. “but all the land has since been brought up, and we not have apartment blocks all round us!”
Jesse has two older brothers and younger sister, so the hallowed halls tell takes of many childhood adventures.
His passion for music is also obvious, and he was more than happy to belt out a few show tunes the day that Inside Soap visited him at home.
“I’ve got a band,” he grins. “Well, I don’t know if you would really call it a band – it’s more of really a muck around think, really. The band is called Splade, though I think we may have to rethink if we go any further with it.
“I play lead guitar. It’s just a fun thing really that I do with friends, so I don’t get too stressed about it.
Unfortunately, I don’t have much time for the group at the moment as I’m working really long hours on Neighbours and also studying for my school exams at the same time. I’d love to play in a proper band that has regular rehearsals, but I can’t even consider that till next year. There’s just too many other things going on.”
But Jesse still manages to find some time to relax and gardens, he also showed us how to make his favourite banana smoothie, shot some impressive hoops of basketball and even helped his mum bring in the washing! Just a typical slice of things that the teenage heart-throb does with his time away from the hustle and bustle of Ramsay Street.
“As well as music, I like sporting things and mucking around with my friends,” he says. “I guess I’m just pretty average in that respect.”
